Boat accident in Venice, La. Reply  Edit

I had planned to meet Andy in Venice last week but I had other things that took precident this time. I've fished with Andy in Venice several times and went to Ontario with him back in June. Anyhow---

He tore up his lower unit and did some other damage to his boat. Look at this E-mail I received from him this afternoon.

Ken,
We were running on the inside of the West jetty at SW Pass. WE were up around one mile and running 30 MPH in 10' of water when something almost brought us to a stop.
Fortunately, nobody was injured and Crawdad was rite behind us in his little bass boat. He could only pull us 3.5 MPH against the current and it took us 6 hours to get in. What an experience.
It destroyed my lower unit and prop. It also gouged the fiberglass all the way across the boat for about the last 4'. We were able to get Metro Boating in New Orleans to replace the lower unit the next morning and I always carry a spare aluminum prop with me. The boat was taking on water all day on Thursday, but we just kept the bilge running and did fine.
I have replacement insurance, so they will pay for the lower unit, prop and fiberglass work. I am having some trouble getting them to send an adjuster out to look at the boat. They want to do that before we start the fiberglass work.
I wish I had marked the way point. The coast guard needs to get that out of the river before someone else hits it. Paul, Yellow Cotton Bay Resort, told me that happened to them last summer. I guess things from Katrina still change position when the river is running hard and still need to be removed.
I am taking a friend and his 7 year old son out to Texoma in the morning. We still have a good topwater and soft plastic bite going on. I guess I will just have to run the bilge.
Andy
