Additional Information / Boat Review:
Engine Manufacturer, Model, and Horsepower Rating:
Mercury Saltwater Optimax 90
What do you like and dislike about the engine(s)?
Dependable starts with no choking or sputtering. When cold it starts like a four stroke. It just sips the gas and oil.
What type trailer do you have and what do you like and dislike about it?
Trailstar. Fits the boat perfect. Easy to load. Even if you hit the trailer at an angle it corrects itself.
Is this boat trailerable and if so what type vehicle, at minimum, would you recommend to adequately pull this rig?
Very easy to pull. I use a E150 cargo van and hardly even feel it behind me.
How much fuel does the boat hold and what is its approximate range?
35 gal under floor tank. Have not figured the range yet.
Describe the ride and handling in moderate chop and in rough water:
As long as you are on plane it handles a moderate chop quite smooth.
If applicable, what type of fishing would you say this rig is best suited for and why?
Inshore and near shore. It has a shallow draft and can get into the flats and marsh creeks, It also rides stable enough to run out a dozen mile or so (in the right conditions)
Describe the layout of the boat including storage, live wells, lockers and so on:
Full liner interior. Anchor storage, one front and two rear storage compartments, under console storage, one live well with recirc, rod storage inset in gunnels, four rod holders for fishing in gunnels, under seat cooler.
How has the rig held up over time?
I have only had it since November. Time will tell.
What are some things that you find exceptional about this boat?
Lay out is similar to most other bay boats in its class. After shopping around this boat seemed to give me the best deal for the money. Especially with the Optimax.
What are some things you do not like about this boat?
So called dry storage compartments. The factory door seals are not fat enough to actually seal against the hatch. A problem I will soon be correcting. The only instrument it did not come with is an hour meter.
Do you know of another manufacturer that makes this same boat under a different name?
Kenner, same hull different name on the side.
Would you buy this boat again or recommend it to a friend?
Yes I would
What would you say this boat is worth in its current condition?
16K
What other boat would you have bought for roughly the same money if you had it to do over again and why?
If I had a little extra money I would have gone for the 19' version. Bigger is better :)
Add any other details or comments you think people should know about this boat if they are considering buying one like it:
Shop around. I found quite a difference in price and options on the same boat from dealer to dealer.
