Additional Information / Boat Review:
Engine Manufacturer, Model, and Horsepower Rating:
Mercury Optimax 225hp
What do you like and dislike about the engine(s)?
Dependable strong running motors that sip gas & oil
What type trailer do you have and what do you like and dislike about it?
Preformance Triaxle aluminum 15,000lb gross load Trailer, has done all I need it to do I like it.
Is this boat trailerable and if so what type vehicle, at minimum, would you recommend to adequately pull this rig?
Yes I use a 2500 4x4 496ci Chevy Suburban it works fine but you know your towing this Boat.
How much fuel does the boat hold and what is its approximate range?
300 gal 600 miles loaded in average seas 450 in nasty seas.
Describe the ride and handling in moderate chop and in rough water:
Like its flat calm. Rough water depends I slow it down until I like the ride, I sit while driving, so in 3ft seas I run about 30 mph with a nice ride. The boat will run on a plane at 15 mph like a 40ft sportfisherman in roughstuff. I would say it is a very dry riding boat it can really spoil you.
If applicable, what type of fishing would you say this rig is best suited for and why?
I have used it inshore as well as offshore but it was designed for offshore fishing.
Describe the layout of the boat including storage, live wells, lockers and so on:
When I bought it came down to this boat & a 31 Yellowfin (I looked at lots of other high end custom boats), I felt the Proline was more boat with the console that has a sleeping berth. The storage is best, the livewell is also 50gal, side fishboxes are small so I use them for storage, side rod storage is good holds 3 perside, electronic box is nice, drivers seat is huge also the best holds 3. The things I would change T-Top is to high should be a foot lower, a foot wider & longer. The step up is nice but a flat floor would be better, would like a drop in anchor locker.
How has the rig held up over time?
This one is very well built, have had a few things break but much less than many other high dollar boats like gradys or whalers but it would rate in that class from my experinces.
What are some things that you find exceptional about this boat?
The handling is unreal it is the easiest boat to run jumps on plan easy. We have used it for tubing & watersking. As of this date 9-6-04 it is my all time favorite boat overall that I have owned.
What are some things you do not like about this boat?
I dont like pulpits or raised bow rails.
Do you know of another manufacturer that makes this same boat under a different name?
No
Would you buy this boat again or recommend it to a friend?
I have liked this boat a bunch but want a boat with a flat floor, toe room & lower gunnels to make releasing large fish easy my arms, joints & knees have had enough. So all my boats will have toe room & lower gunnels for easy fish releasing in the future.
What would you say this boat is worth in its current condition?
65-70 thousand
What other boat would you have bought for roughly the same money if you had it to do over again and why?
At the time I liked this best, my dream boat wasnt designed yet. So I still would have gotten this boat.
Add any other details or comments you think people should know about this boat if they are considering buying one like it:
The older models are made very solid but after 2001 they started using less glass in them, I dont know if that will make them do anything better, but I know this one is one tuff boat.
