Additional Information / Boat Review:
Engine Manufacturer, Model, and Horsepower Rating:
Mercury 150hp 2stroke Saltwater w/offshore SS prop
What do you like and dislike about the engine(s)?
The 150 has more than enough power to propel this heavy boat and still provides good gas mileage.
What type trailer do you have and what do you like and dislike about it?
Champion aluminum tandem axle, a good quality trailer, with just normal headaches with tail lights not mixing with salt water.
Is this boat trailerable and if so what type vehicle, at minimum, would you recommend to adequately pull this rig?
Yes, pulls well with either Ford F150/V8 or Dodge 1500/V8. More truck would just mean more gas per trip. Boat w/motor & fuel with trailer tip scales at 3,700 lbs.
How much fuel does the boat hold and what is its approximate range?
2
Describe the ride and handling in moderate chop and in rough water:
In moderat chop boat provides a comfortable ride; in rought water expect a wet, yet safe ride.
If applicable, what type of fishing would you say this rig is best suited for and why?
It handles offshore trolling and bottomfishing quiet well, equal to the 25ft class boats. Not a skinny water boat with its 18-inch draft, but handles bay flats well.
Describe the layout of the boat including storage, live wells, lockers and so on:
Boat has a large anchor locker, 6ft long, 250gal fishbox in bow, 20 gal stern live well, storage in center console, 16-rod holders, two enclosed stern battery compartments and electronics battery storage within console.
How has the rig held up over time?
This rig will probably outlast me. Solid, no defects in workmanship or performance.
What are some things that you find exceptional about this boat?
My Cape Horn makes getting to the fish offshore fast and safe. It is a no-nonsense craft that is versatile and even makes my wife happy.
What are some things you do not like about this boat?
In 4ft plus seas you will get wet, but that's the case on the vast majority of center consoles.
Do you know of another manufacturer that makes this same boat under a different name?
The Palm Beach and Key Largo boats appear to be copies of earlier Cape Horns
Would you buy this boat again or recommend it to a friend?
Yes, it fits my purpose as a working, no-frills fishing vessel that I can trust.
What would you say this boat is worth in its current condition?
$24,000
What other boat would you have bought for roughly the same money if you had it to do over again and why?
For the same money - no other boat. For a few thousand more probably the Cape Horn 23 -- but then again, naw the 19ft is fine.
Add any other details or comments you think people should know about this boat if they are considering buying one like it:
You may find prettier boats and even boats with "braggin rights" due to manufacturer name, but the Cape Horn 19 gets the fishing done.
